Authentic is the 7th Gr1 winner for Into Mischief after winning Saturday’s Haskell Stakes (9f) at Monmouth Park.
Coming into this race off a last start second in the Gr1 Santa Anita Derby, Authentic (pic: Monmouth Park/was allowed an uncontested lead and held a clear advantage at the final turn. NY Traffic (Cross Traffic) closed late but fell a nose short, the pair 4-1/2 lengths clear of Dr Post (Quality Road).
Victory in the Haskell earns the Bob Baffert-trained Authentic an automatic spot in the Gr1 Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic.
It is the fourth win from five starts for Authentic, which sold for $350,000 as a Keeneland September yearling. Spendthrift Farm recently acquired a controlling interest in the colt, whose earnings now total $1,011,200.
His dam Flawless (Mr Greeley) won in the US and has left two other winners.
The granddam Oyster Baby (Wild Again) was unraced and a half-sister to Gr3 La Habra Stakes placed Real Fancy Runner (Johannesburg) and also to Dixie Holiday (Dixieland Band), the winning dam of Listed winning Holiday Runner (Meadowlake), the dam of Gr1 winners Reynaldothewizard (Speightstown) and Seventh Street (Street Cry), herself the dam of Gr2 winner Lake Avenue (Tapit).
Authentic’s third dam Really Fancy (In Reality) won the Gr3 Anoakia Stakes and a half-sister to Gr2 winner Blushing Heiress while the fourth dam is Gr2 Hollywood Lassie Stakes winner Native Fancy (Our Native).
Gr1 winner Into Mischief (Harlan’s Holiday) has been represented by 18 stakes winners so far in 2020. He is advertised at $175,000 at Spendthrift Farm in Kentucky in 2020.
