71 for Lope de Vega

Surf Dancer is SW71 for Lope de Vega after winning the King Charles II Stakes (7f) at York.

Surf Dancer challenged two furlongs out and then drew clear over the final furlong to defeat Boccaccio (Dubawi) by 2-1/4 lengths with Lincoln Bright (Lope de Vega) close up third.

Surf Dancer sold for 260,000 as a Goff Orby yearling to China Horse Club and Ballylinch Stud and has now won three of his seven races.

He is the only foal to race for Beach Belle (Invincible Spirit), Listed winner of the Naas Fillies’ Sprint.

Beach Belle is a three-quarter sister to UK Listed winner Naadirr (Oasis Dream) and the granddam Beach Bunny (High Chaparral) winner of the Listed Dance Design Stakes at The Curragh and runner-up in the Gr1 Pretty Polly Stakes.

Dual French Classic winner Lope de Vega (Shamardal) has Gr2 Celebration Mile winner Duke Of Hazzard out of an Invincible Spirit (Green Desert) mare plus Irish 2000 Gns winner Phoenix Of Spain out of a mare by Key Of Luck (Chief’s Crown).

Lope de Vega has had great success with mares carrying Danehill (Danzig), notably Gr1 winners Santa Ana Lane, Gytrash, Vega Magic, Newspaperofrecord, Belardo and Capla Temptress.
