Quian is SW70 for Mastercraftsman after winning Sunday’s Hoppegartner Steher-Preis (2800m) at Hoppegarten.
Settled in forth place to the home turn, Quian struck the front early in the home straight then stayed on strongly to defeat Ida Alata (Adlerflug) by 2-1/2 lengths with All For Rome (Holy Roman Emperor) a further 1-3/4 lengths away in third.
Purchased by his trainer Peter Schiergen for €54,000 as a yearling at the BBAG September Yearling Sales, Quian has won five of his nine starts.
Inbred 4×5 to Lyphard, Quian is the best of three winners to date for his dam Quiana (Monsun), a winning half-sister to Champion Quijano (Acatenango), whose 14 wins included the Gr1 Grosser Preis Von Baden and two runnings of the Gr1 Premio di Milano.
The third-dam Quest Of Fire (Rainbow Quest) is a half-sister to Gr3 Prix Cleopatre winner Brooklyn’s Dance (Shirley Heights), the dam of Champion Solemia (Poliglote), as well as French Listed winner Gold Dodger (Slew O’Gold), the dam of Irish Gr3 winner Chintz (Danehill Dancer), herself the dam of Gr1 winner The Gurkha (Galileo).
Mastercraftsman (Danehill Dancer) shuttled to Windsor Park Stud in New Zealand for several seasons but is now a permanent resident at Coolmore Stud where his fee in 2020 was advertised as €25,000.
