70 for Lope de Vega

Simeen ran out the comfortable winner of Sunday’s Prix Volterra (1600m) at Saint-Cloud to become SW70 for Lope de Vega.

Simeen always looked to be travelling smoothly, held up in the rear by Christophe Soumillon until well into the home straight where she accelerated to the lead inside the final 400m to go clear and defeat Scripturale (Makfi) by 3-1/2 lengths with Beaute Pour Toi (Camelot) close up third.

Bred and raced by HH The Aga Khan, Simeen has now won four of her five starts and is out of Samadrisa (Oasis Dream), a winner over 2000m at Chantilly and a half-sister to three stakes winners including dual Gr1 winner Sarafina (Refuse To Bend).

Dual French classic winner Lope de Vega (Shamardal) shuttled under the Patinack banner for four seasons to Australia from 2011 with the Group 1 winning sprinters Santa Ana Lane, Vega Magic and Gytrash among his best performers.

Now a permanent resident at Ballylinch Stud in Ireland, he has seven other Gr1 winners including Belardo, who is now at stud under the Darley banner, and Sunday’s Just A Game Stakes at Belmont Par winner Newspapaerofrecord.

Lope de Vega is advertised at €100,000 in 2020.
