Chrono Genesis dazzles in Takarazuka Kinen

Chrono Genesis ran away from her rivals in a dominant performance to win Sunday’s Takarazuka Kinen (2200m) at Hanshin.

Chrono Genesis settled in a midfield position before moving up wide out approaching the home turn. Chrono Genesis accelerated smoothly into a clear lead and went on to defeat last year’s winner Kiseki by six lengths  with Mozu Bella in third, just in front of the favourite Saturnalia.

It is the second Gr1 win for Chrono Genesis, winner of last year’s Shuka Sho, and jockey Yuichi Kitamura told the Japan Racing Association the win was as easy as it looked.

“The filly broke smoothly and we were able to travel in good rhythm in good striking position,” Kitamura said. “I didn’t really have to urge her to go but she just went spontaneously.

“She was responding really well so I knew that she will stretch well in the lane. She has become a powerful filly and was in very good condition. She was really strong.”

Victory in the Takarazuka Kinen grants Chrono Genesis a starting spot in both the Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf and the 100th running of the W S Cox Plate in Australia should connections so choose.

Last year’s winner of the race Lys Gracieux went on to win the Cox Plate.

Bred by Northern Racing and racing in the colours of Sunday Racing, Chrono Genesis finished third in the the Oka Sho (Japanese One Thousand Guineas) and Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks) last year on her way to winning the Shuka Sho at Kyoto in October.
