Madone is SW3 and the first NH SW for Vancouver after winning Sunday’s Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf Stakes (8f).
Settled behind the leading group and still worse than midfield around the home turn, Madone was able to come through between horses, finishing strongly to defeat Nimbostratus (Wootton Bassett) by a half-length but that filly subsequently demoted to third for causing interference to Ivy League (Medaglia d’Oro) in the home straight, which was placed second.
Madone first sold for $70,000 as a Keeneland November weanling before selling for $50,000 as a Keeneland September yearling then finally for $125,000 as a Breeze-Up at Ocala.
Raced by Kaleem Shah and trained by Simon Callaghan, she has won both her starts.
Her granddam Mood Music (Kingmambo) is a half-sister to Gr1 NYRA mile winner and sire Gold Fever (Forty Niner) and Listed winner Emanating (Cox’s Ridge), the dam of Gr1 Man O’War Stakes at Belmont winner Boisterous (Distorted Humor).
Gr1 Golden Slipper Stakes winner Vancouver (Medaglia d’Oro) shuttles between Coolmore in Australia and Kentucky. He sired his second Australian stakes winner last Saturday when Night Raid scored at Moonee Valley.
