72 for Lope de Vega

Lucky Vega is the 11th Gr1 winner and SW 72 for Lope de Vega after winning Sunday’s Phoenix Stakes (6f) at The Curragh.

Lucky Vega was reserved behind the early speed until being brought out into the centre of the track two furlongs out then accelerated into the lead, going clear of by 3-1/2 lengths of Aloha Star (Starspangledbanner) with The Lir Jet (Prince Of Lir) a nose away third, Aloha Star demoted to third after stewards enquiry.

Bred by Kilcarn Park, Lucky Vega sold for €110,000 as a foal at the Goffs November sale before making €175,000 as a Goffs Orby yearling to the BBA Ireland on behalf of Zhang Yuesheng and is now the winner of winner of two of his three starts for Jessica Harrington.

He is the best of three winners left by Queen Of Carthage (Cape Cross), an unraced half-sister to German Listed winner Important Time (Oasis Dream).

The granddam is Gr1 Prix de l’Opera winner Satwa Queen (Muhtathir), a half-sister to Gr1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud winner and sire Spadoun (Kaldoun).

The fourth dam Light Of Realm (Realm) won the Gr3 Prix des Reservoirs.

Dual French classic winner Lope de Vega (Shamardal) also has French Listed winner She Is No Lady out of a mare by Cape Cross (Green Desert) as well as Gr2 winners Endless Drama out of a mare by Green Desert and Duke Of Hazzard out of a mare by Invincible Spirit (Green Desert).
