Torquator Tasso is SW15 and the 5th Gr1 winner for Adlerflug winning Saturday’s Grosser Preis von Berlin (2400m) at Hoppegarten.
Slowly away along with Dicaprio, Torquator Tasso improved quickly to settle just behind the early speed set by Stex. Eased off heels with 200m to race Torquator Tasso accelerated into the lead inside the final 100m and was then all out to hold the challenge of Dicaprio (Adlerflug) to score by a head with Kaspar (Pivotal) third.
Previously runner-up in the Deutsches Derby, Torquator Tasso is now the winner of two of his five starts for trainer Marcel Weiss.
Bred by Paul Vandeberg, Torquator Tasso is inbred 4×5 to Anatevka (Espresso) and was a €24,000 purchase by Gestüt Auenquelle at the 2018 BBAG October Mixed Sale.
He is the first winner out of Tijuana (Toylsome), a placed half-sister to the Gr2 Diana Trial winner Tusked Wings (Adlerflug) and the Listed-placed pair Titurel (Dr Fong) and Tahini (Medicean)
The granddam Tucana (Acatenango) is a winning half-sister to German Champion sprinter and sire Tertullian (Miswaki).
Torquator Tasso’s third-dam Turbaine (Trempolino) is a half-sister to Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Urban Sea (Miswaki), the dam of Champions Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) and Sea The Stars (Cape Cross).
