Lunar Fox is the fifth Gr.1 winner for Foxwedge winning Saturday’s Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington.
Racing midfield with cover to the home turn, Lunar Fox came with his challenge up the centre of the track to reach the lead inside the final 100m and always holding the late rally from Cherry Tortoni to score.
It is the first win for Lunar Fox since winning the Gr.2 Sires’ Produce Stakes over 1400m at Flemington last season.
Bred by Travis Kelly and his wife Rebecca who sold him for $40,000 at the Melbourne VOBIS Gold yearling sale, Lunar Fox is one of three winners out of the B Wayne Hughes-bred North American Listed winner Grant’s Moon (Malibu Moon).
The third-dam Wendy’s Daughter (Halo) won four times in North America and was Listed placed.
She is a three-quarter sister to Champions Devils Bag (Halo) and Glorious Song (Halo), the dam of Singspiel (In The Wings) and Rahy (Blushing Groom).
Wendy’s Daughter is a half-sister the Gr2 La Jolla Handicap winner Blacksburg (Seattle Slew) and Japanese Listed winner Hishi Natalie (Seattle Slew).
Gr1 winner Foxwedge was advertised at $11,000 at Woodside Park in Victoria in 2020.
