Truly Great is the fifth Gr1 winner for Dundeel taking Saturday’s Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at Ascot.
Truly Great was settled midfield and wide to the home turn where he was presented with his challenge, quickening up in good style to run to the lead inside the final 100m and draw away for a convincing win over Inspiration Girl (Reliable Man) and Dom To Shoot (Shooting To Win).
It is the seventh win from 12 starts for the Bob Peters-homebred, previously a winner at Gr.3 level.
Inbred 4×4 to Sir Tristram, Truly Great is the fifth Gr.1 winner for Dundeel (High Chaparral), advertised at $66,000 at Arrowfield Stud in 2020. Dundeel also has Gr2 winners Victoria Quay and Global Exchange inbred to Sir Tristram (Sir Ivor).
Truly Great is a half-brother to three winners including the Gr.3 Western Australia Oaks winner Special Alert (Not A Single Doubt) and seven-time winner Truly Gold (Nicconi).
The dam Truly Special (Jeune) won three times and a sister to Jeune’s Reign, a winner of seven races and runner-up in the Gr.3 Rain Lover Plate at Morphettville.
The granddam Reigning Belle (Military Plume) won five races including the Listed Morphettville Guineas.
The third-dam Alzabella (Alzao) is a half-sister to Blue Diamond Prelude (Fillies) at Caulfield winner Danaides (Rory’s Jester).
Truly Special has an unraced two-year-old filly Truly Blessed (Dundeel) and foaled a filly by Dundeel on November 28.
