Sunday’s Prix de Diane winner Fancy Blue is the 47th Gr1 winner for the late Deep Impact.
Last start runner-up in the Irish 1000 Gns, Fancy Blue raced in second place on the quarters of Alpine Star to the home straight then prevailed in a driving finish to defeat Alpine Star by a head with Peaceful close up in third.
Fancy Blue is a half-sister to French Listed winner Casterton (Fastnet Rock) and Irish Listed winner Smuggler’s Cove (Fastnet Rock) and three other winners.
Fancy Blue is out of Chenchikova (Sadler’s Wells), a winning sister to dual Derby winner and successful sire High Chaparral and Gr2 winner Black Bear Island. Another half-sister Mora Bai (Indian Ridge) is the dam of Australian Gr2 winner Hunting Horn (Camelot).
Japanese Champion Deep Impact died in 2019.
