Katara is SW159 for Deep Impact after comfortably winning Saturday’s Chalice Stakes (12f) at Newmarket.
Waited with midfield by Oisin Murphy, Katara was delivered to challenge two furlongs out and ran on strongly up the hill to defeat Expressionism (Galileo) by four-lengths with Cosmic Princess (Kingman) filling third place.
Bred and raced by Al Shaqab, Katara has now won two of her four starts.
Her dam Asyad (New Approach) won at Ascot and finished third in this race as well as the Gr2 Park Hill Stakes. She is a half-sister to German Champion and three-time Gr3 winner and Gr1 Preis der Diana runner-up Elle Shadow (Shamardal) and to French Listed winner El Comodin (Monsun) and German Listed winner Elle Gala (Galileo).
Another half-sister is French Listed placed Elle Galante (Galileo), the dam of Gr2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot winner Balios (Shamardal).
The granddam is champion German filly Elle Danzig (Roi Danzig), whose 12 wins included the Gr1 Premio Roma and the Preis der Diana.
Champion Deep Impact (Sunday Silence) was euthanised in July 2019 at Shadai Stud in Japan due to a cervical spine fracture.
He has 2000 Guineas winner Saxon Warrior out of a mare by Galileo.
