Cafe Pharoah is the third Gr1 winner for American Pharoah winning Sunday’s February Stakes (8f) on dirt at Tokyo.
Settled in fifth place. Cafe Pharoah eased into third place around the home turn then finished best of all to defeat Air Spinel (King Kamehameha) by three-quarters of a length with Wonder Lider (Statue Of Liberty) in third.
It is the fifth win from seven starts for the Paul Pompa-bred Cafe Pharoah, a $475,000 Ocala 2YO and now trained by Noriyuki Hori.
He is a half-brother to Gr2 Lake Placid Stakes at Saratoga winner Regal Glory (Animal Kingdom) and the Gr3 Transylvania Stakes at Keeneland winner Night Prowler (Giant’s Causeway), their dam Mary’s Follie (More Than Ready) winner of the Gr2 Mrs Revere Stakes at Churchill Downs.
The third-dam Wave To The Queen (Wavering Monarch) won eight races including the Listed Old South Handicap.
US Triple Crown winner American Pharoah (Pioneerofthenile) shuttles between Coolmore Studs in Kentucky and New South Wales and is also the sire of Gr2 winner Four Wheel Drive out of a mare by More Than Ready.
