NHK Mile to Lauda Sion

Lauda Sion produced a career-best performance to land the Gr1 NHK Mile Cup at Tokyo.

Settled in second place behind Resistencia to the home turn, Lauda Sion challenged strongly with 200m to travel and gradually asserted his authority to draw away to score by 1-1/2 lengths.

Jockey Mirco Demuro told the JRA he anticipated the track would be favouring on-pace runners.

“I knew that the track today ran better for front runners, and considering that he’s usually an evenly-paced colt, I planned to keep him well up in front,” Demuro said.

He’s always quick out of the gate so we were able to secure a good position and I felt he had plenty to outrun Christophe’s filly (Resistencia) in the final stages.”
