Sardinia Sunset is the first SW for Gutaifan after winning Thursday’s Marygate Fillies Stakes (5f) at York.
Sardinia Sunset was held up behind the early speed before coming through between fillies to strike the front inside the final furlong and defeat Furlong Factor (Adaay) by one length with Country Carnival (Mayson) a nose off in third.
It is the first win from three starts for Sardinia Sunset, which finished fourth in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot two starts back.
A 34,000 gns foal at Tattersalls and a 95,000 Goffs yearling, Sardinia Sunset is the second winner out of Rush (Compton Place), a half-sister to Gr3 Fred Darling Stakes at Newbury winner Rimth (Oasis Dream).
The granddam Dorelia (Efisio) is a half-sister to Gr2 King’s Stand Stakes winner Dominica.
Gutaifan won the Gr2 Prix Robert Papin and Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster at two as well as finishing second in the Gr1 Prix Morny.
He stands alongside his sire Dark Angel at Yeomanstown Stud in Ireland where he is advertised at €6000 in 2020.
