First for Capitalist

Captivant is the first Gr1 winner for Capitalist winning Saturday’s Champagne Stakes (1600m) for 2yos at Randwick.

Captivant appreciated the step up in trip and after settling in midfield came to challenge early in the home straight, reaching the lead inside the final 200m then holding the late rally from Hilal to score.

Third last time out in the Gr1 Sires’ Produce Stakes over 1400m and fifth in the Gr1 Golden Slipper Stakes, Captivant is the fourth stakes winner in the first-crop for his sire, the Champion 2YO colt of 2015-16 Capitalist.

Capitalist has Danehill as his maternal grandsire and Captivant is 4×3 Danehill with three of Capitalist’s four stakes winners to date having Danehill duplications.

Captivant is one of two winners out of Speedboat (Commands), a three-quarter sister to Gr2 Caulfield Sprint winner First Command (Commands)

Speedboat is also a half-sister to Melbourne Listed winning sprinter Cross Current (Keltrice) and to Riptide (Exceed And Excel), a winner at Flemington and the dam of Gr1 New Zealand Derby winner Crown Prosecutor (Medaglia d’Oro). Another half-sister River Tribe (Umatilla) is the dam of Gr2 Magic Night Stakes at Rosehill winner Willow Creek (Tale Of The Cat).

Capitalist was advertised at $44,000 at Newgate Farm last season.
