The death has been announced of Grade 1 winner Preach at the age of 31.
Claiborne Farm announced via Twitter on February 19 that Preach, a grade 1-winning homebred, had died due to the infirmities of old age.
“With a heavy (heart) we share that one of the queens of Claiborne Farm, Preach has passed away at the age of 31,” the tweet read.
“A G1W herself, Preach produced the breed-shaping Pulpit & has left a lasting legacy as both a racehorse and broodmare—she will be deeply missed by all of us at Claiborne.”
Preach (Mr Prospector – Narrate, by Honest Pleasure) won four of her 15 starts, highlighted by victory in the Grade 1 Frizette Stakes at Belmont Park.
Preach made an immediate impact at stud with her first foal Pulpit (A P Indy), winner of the Grade 2 Blue Grass and Grade 2 Fountain Of Youth Stakes and subsequently the sire of 74 stakes winners, notably champion sire Tapit.
