Coronavirus forces Gr1 retirement

The coronavirus has had an unprecedented impact on racing worldwide and the Group One winning colt Brutal is part of the collateral damage.

News on Tuesday that last season’s Doncaster Handicap winner Brutal (O’Reilly) has been retired following confirmation that the Brisbane winter carnival has been scrapped.

The four-year-old was being aimed at the lucrative sprint races later this season but will now be running in a paddock at Newgate Stud in the Hunter Valley instead.

Brutal raced 10 times for five wins, highlighted by the Gr1 Doncaster Handicap (1600m) at Randwick and the Gr2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill as well as two Listed race wins in Victoria.
