Bivouc breathtaking in Sprint Classic

Godolphin-homebred Bivouc is set to tackle the world following a breathtaking win in Saturday’s Darley Sprint Classic (1200m) at Flemington.

Bivouac was still on the bridle passing halfway as Nature Strip led clearly up the middle of the straight course however, Glen Boss had only to allow Bivouac some rein and the Exceed And Excel four-year-old simply accelerated clear in a matter of strides to win eased down by 3-1/2 lengths, his second Group 1 win on the Flemington straight course following last season’s win in the Newmarket Handicap.

“I’ve ridden some of the best in Australia and he’s right up there with one of the best I’ve ridden,” Boss said.

“You just don’t see them do what he just did. I’m very privileged to be sitting on this very good colt.

“He’s just a very unique invidividual, he’s got a great demeanour, takes everything in his stride. But he’s just such an athlete.

“You just don’t see horses win the Darley Classic like that. There’s a sprinter of the year right beside him and he went straight past it and said see you later boys.”

Trainer James Cummings confirmed global ambitions for Bivouac on Melbourne radio on Sunday morning.

‘’We’ve spoken about the plans provisionally. We’ll go through it in more detail tomorrow morning but I don’t think there are any members of the team that aren’t excited by the prospect of taking this horse abroad,” Cummings said.

‘’I like the idea of including the Lightning (Stakes at Flemington in February) in the horse’s campaign for next year and we can use that as a launching pad for any exploits overseas.

’’At the top of the list has to be Dubai and Royal Ascot. That can make it a big year for a colt but we think he’s well capable of making that trip and undergoing that challenge because he’s got a marvellous temperament.

‘’We are very lucky to have a horse that good in our care.’’
