Audarya gave trainer James Fanshawe his third win in Sunday’s Group 1 Prix Jean Romanet (2000m) at Deauville.
Ioritz Mendizabal positioned Audarya close to the early pace set by Romanciere before being ridden along to challenge early in the home straight. Striking the front 200m out Audarya stayed on gamely to defeat Ambition (Dubawi) by a neck with Romanciere (Dansili) clinging on for third.
Audarya started one of the outsiders after some disappointing efforts in lesser company earlier this year and a victory on the all-weather at Newcastle last time out.
“She’s a filly I’ve always loved but we were going nowhere earlier this year,” Fanshawe told Sky Sports. “She was unlucky at Kempton and then I don’t know what happened at Pontefract.
“It’s a race we’ve always loved as it’s the last time the older horses can run without the 3-year-olds and we’ve won it twice before.
”But I must admit I’ve been walking my box the last two days wondering if I’d made a mistake.”
Audarya was purchased by Stroud Coleman bloodstock for €125,000 at the Arqana October Yearling Sale and is now the winner of four of her 11 starts.
In winning she becomes the 15th stakes winner and second Gr1 winner for Wootton Bassett.
