Johnny Drama is SW4 for Lilbourne Lad winning Wednesday’s Wild Flower Stakes (12f) on the all-weather at Kempton.
Settled in third place early as Sextant set the pace, Johnny Drama challenged in the home straight and struck the front inside the final furlong, holding off the late charge from Sinjaari (Camelot) and score by a short-head with Sextant (Sea The Stars) staying on for third.
Bred by Knocktoran Stud and Maura Purcell, Johnny Drama was sold for €6500 as a Goffs November foal and then bought back for €3000 as a Goffs Sportsman yearling.
A half-brother to Italian winner Kabul (Intense Focus), Johnny Drama’s dam Quelle Histoire (Whipper) was placed in France and a half-sister to Endless Drama (Lope de Vega), a Gr2 winner in Australia and New Zealand and runner-up in the Gr1 Irish 2000 Gns as well as to Forever Drama (Dynaformer), the dam of New Zealand Listed winner Champagne Or Water (Captain Rio).
The granddam Desert Drama (Green Desert) won the Listed Prix Hampton at Chantilly and third in the Gr2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte.
Gr2 winner Lilbourne Lad (Acclamation) retired to Rathbarry Stud in Ireland and now stands in Turkey.
