Emaraaty Ana is the 27th Gr1 winner for Shamardal winning Saturday’s Sprint Cup (6f) at Haydock.
Emaraaty Ana was positioned just behind the early speed set by Art Power and Supremacy, Emaraaty Ana came with his challenge two furlongs out to reach the lead and getting first run on the favourite Starman to go clear then hold on to defeat Starman (Dutch Art) by a nose with Chil Chil (Exceed And Excel) three-quarters of a length away third.
It is the fifth win from 19 starts for Emaraaty Ana, winner of the Gr2 Gimcrack Stakes at York at two.
He is the second Gr1 winner from 14 foals by Shamardal out of Cape Cross (Green Desert) following HH The Aga Khan’s Tarnawa and Shamardal’s son Lope de Vega has Gr1 winner Lucky Vega out of a Cape Cross mare.
Shamardal has French Group winners Shaman and Sasparella out of mares by Green Desert and is also the sire of Hong Kong Gr1 winner Able Friend out of a mare by Volksraad (Green Desert)
As a broodmare sire Shamardal is responsible for classic winner Awtaad by Cape Cross and French Gr1 winner Pretty Pollyanna by Oasis Dream, a son of Green Desert.
Emaraaty Ana is 5×4 Blushing Groom and Shamardal has stakes winners Rostrum, Premardal and Magnolia Springs out of mares by Rainbow Quest (Blushing Groom), the maternal granddam of Emaraaty Ana while the Irish Gr3 winner Toscanini is by Shamardal out of a mare by Panoramic (Rainbow Quest).
Emaraaty Ana’s dam Spirit Of Dubai (Cape Cross) won the Listed Princess Royal Stakes at Ascot and a half-sister to dual French Gr3 winner Trumbaka (In The Wings) and Listed winner Arctic Hunt (Bering).
