Tarnawa is the 26th Gr1 winner for Shamardal following her win in Sunday’s Prix Vermeille (2400m) at Paris Longchamp.
The Dermot Weld-trained Tarnawa raced wide to the final turn but in clear air and then accelerated smoothly to reach the lead inside the final 100m and go clear to defeat Raabihah (Sea The Stars) by with longtime leader Dame Malliot (Champs Elysees) hanging on for third.
Tarnawa is the only foal to race out of dual Irish Listed winner and Gr3 Curragh Cup third Tarana (Cape Cross).
The granddam Tarakala (Dr Fong) won four times in England including the Listed Galtres Stakes at York.
Dual French classic winner Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway) has Gr2 Gimcrack Stakes winner Emaraaty Ana out of a mare by Cape Cross (Green Desert) as well as French Gr2 winner Shaman out of a mare by Green Desert (Danzig) while his Hong Kong Champion Able Friend is out of a mare by Volksraad (Green Desert).
Shamardal’s son Lope de Vega is the sire of Gr1 winner Lucky Vega out of a mare by Cape Cross as well as Group winners Endless Drama and Four White Socks out of mares by Green Desert.
