Topgear is SW24 and the 14th Group winner for Wootton Bassett remaining unbeaten in Friday’s Gr3 Prix Eclipse (1200m) for 2yos at Chantilly.
Settled in fourth place to halfway, Topgear ran to the lead 400m out and then found plenty when challenged strongly over the final 200m and did enough to defeat Best Flying (Pedro The Great) by a short-head with Lovamour (Goken) a further 4-1/2 lengths away in third.
A €200,000 Arqana Deauville yearling, Topgear (pictured winning at Deauville) is now the winner of his three starts for trainer Fabrice Chappet.
His dam Miss Lech (Giant’s Causeway) a winner in North America and a half-sister to Gr2 Strub Stakes at Santa Anita winner Guilt Trip (Pulpit).
The third-dam Rose Indien (Crystal Glitters) won the Listed Hopeful Stakes at Newmarket and a half-sister to Gr2 Prix du Conseil de Paris winner Majorien (Machiavellian) and Gr2 Prix de Malleret winner America (Arazi), the dam of Gr1 Melbourne Cup winner Americain (Dynaformer).
Wootton Bassett also has Gr2 winner Tamahere out of a mare by Giant’s Causeway.
Now standing at Coolmore in Ireland, Wootton Basset shuttles to Coolmore Australia where he is advertised at $71,500.
