Melbourne Cup winner Twilight Payment is the 21st Gr1 winner for Teofilo.
Rated perfectly in the lead by Jye McNeil, Twilight Payment lifted the tempo into the home straight and went clear, getting tired late but having enough in hand to defeat a gallant Tiger Moth with Prince Of Arran running on strongly for third after finding traffic early in the home straight.
The race had an unfortunate postscript with the fatal breakdown of last year’s Derby winner Anthony Van Dyck, eased out of the race early in the home straight with a fractured fetlock and unable to be saved.
Bred by Jim Bolger who also bred Prince Of Arran and bred and raced Teofilo (Galileo), Twilight Payment is the 21st Gr.1 winner for the Darley stallion who also has Gr.1 winner Tawkeel out of a mare by Oasis Dream (Green Desert) and three-time Gr.1 winner Humidor has Green Desert as his maternal grandsire.
