Waisake is SW14 for Zed winning the Wellington Cup (3200m) at Trentham.
The Allan Sharrock-trained Waisake enjoyed a trouble-free run to halfway, smothered away along the inside in midfield before looking to find running room before the home straight.
Once into the clear he took a little while to balance up before powering home to defeat Bluey’s Chance (Remind) by half a lengthy with Justamaiz (Guillotine) running on late for third.
Purchased for $28,000 by Sharrock from the Ainsley Downs Stud draft during the Festival sale at Karaka in 2016, Waisake has now won six of his 23 starts and takes his earnings in excess of $220,000.
Bred by Miss L Jameson, the six-year-old is a half-brother to Dunedin Cup winner Monachee (O’Reilly), the dam of Wanganui Guineas winner Cooga Doon (Makfi).
The granddam Cia (Sound Reason) won five races in New Zealand and a sister to Carbine Club Stakes at Flemington winner Wage Freeze.
The third-dam Gynarchy (Imperialist) a half-sister to Port Adelaide Derby Trial Stakes winner Galeola (Oncidium) and further back, Waisake is descended from Poule d’Essai des Pouliches winner Mackwiller (Verwood).
Zed (Zabeel) stands at Grangewilliam Stud where he was advertised at $5,000 last season.
