132 & 133 for Street Cry

Two new SWs for Street Cry at Meydan on Thursday with Volcanic Sky (132) winning the Gr3 Nad al Sheba Trophy and Zainhom (133) the Meydan Challenge.

Volcanic Sky (picture: ERA) raced outside the leader in a slowly run race to the home straight where he went clear and despite getting tired late held on to score by a short-head over Global Heat (Toronado), with Brilliant Light (Sea The Stars) a further length and a quarter back in third.

Volcanic Sky is a brother to the UK Listed-placed Minidress, the dam of Listed-placed Petticoat (Cape Cross) and and half-brother to the unraced Rose Law (New Approach), the dam of Japanese Listed winner Due Process (Daiwa Major).

Volcanic Sky’s dam Short Skirt (Diktat) won the Gr3 Musidora Stakes at York and St Simon Stakes at Newbury as well as placing in the Yorkshire Oaks and the Oaks at Epsom.

Short Skirt is a half-sister to the Gr2 Princess Of Wales’s Stakes winner Little Rock (Warning) and Gr2 Prix de Pomone winner Whitewater Affair (Machiavellian), the dam of Gr1 Yasuda Kinen winner Asakusa Den’en (Singspiel).

 

The Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned Zainhom won the Listed Meydan Challenge (1400m), defeating Wasim (Acclamation) by a 1-1/4 lengths with Dubai Legacy (Discreet Cat) another three quarters of a length back in third.

Previously Gr3-placed in the UK, Zainhom has now won three of his 32 starts.

His dam Kaseema (Storm Bird) is a half-sister to dual US Gr1 winner and sire Aragorn (Giant’s Causeway) and Luce (Sadler’s Wells), the dam of French Listed winner King Of Arnor (Monsun).

The granddam Onaga (Mr Prospector) a sister to US Gr2 winner and Gr1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches runner-up Sha Tha, the dam of French Gr2 winner State Shinto (Pleasant Colony) and to Tacha, the dam of Gr1 winner and sire One Cool Cat (Storm Cat).

Gr1 winner Street Cry (Machiavellian) shuttled to Australia for nine seasons between 2003 and 2013 and died in 2014.
