120 for Cape Cross

Friday’s Godolphin Stakes (12f) at Newmarket winner Walton Street is SW120 for Cape Cross.

Off the track for over 12 months, Walton Street returned to action with a good second at Lingfield earlier this month and showed the benefit of that with a strong win here, striking the front three furlongs out than staying on strongly to defeat Aloe Vera (Invincible Spirit) and Laafy (Noble Mission).

It is the fourth win from 14 starts for the six-year-old gelding, a half-brother to Australian winners Macavity (Street Cry) and Iriomote (Exceed And Excel). Their dam is Gr2 Matriarch Stakes at Flemington winner Brom Felinity (Encosta de Lago), a sister to Gr1 Australian Guineas winner and sire Delago Brom.

Walton Street’s granddam Brompton Cross (El Qahira) won the Gr2 Edward Manifold Stakes at Flemington at three.

Gr1 winner Cape Cross (Green Desert) died at Kildangan Stud in April 2017.
