Victoria Quay is SW12 for Dundeel winning the Gr2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) at Flemington.
Settled closer than in previous starts, Jamie Kah stalked the favourite Personal (Fastnet Rock) in fifth place to the home turn where she moved alongside and than gradually asserted her authority over the final 50m to edge clear.
It is the second win from four starts for the Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained Victoria Quay, purchased for $250,000 as a Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling when consigned by Rushton Park by Suman Hedge in whose maroon colours Victoria Quay races.
Inbred 4×4 to Sir Tristram, Victoria Quay is a half-sister to four winners including Melbourne winner Ghodeleine (Monaco Consul) and Adelaide winner Beau Rivage (Monoco Consul).
Their dam Swan River (Danehill Dancer) a sister to Gr2 Alister Clark Stakes winner Lieutenant and half-sister to Gr2 Tulloch Stakes at Rosehill winner Count Encosta (Encosta de Lago).
Dundeel (High Chaparral) is enjoying good success with mares from the Danehill (Danzig) sire-line, notably Gr1 Caulfield Gns winner Super Seth (Redoute’s Choice), South African Gr1 winner Atyaab (Danasinga), Gr3 winner Entente (Stratum) and Listed winner Cutadeel (Dylan Thomas).
