Kahma Lass gave Darci Brahma his 11th Gr1 winner with victory in Saturday’s New Zealand 1000 Guineas (1600m) at Riccarton.
Kahma Lass was able to weave between fillies in the home straight to score here at just her fourth start, coming from a midfield position into the home straight in the colours of Cambridge Stud proprietors Brendan and Jo Lindsay.
Bred by Nearco Stud Limited, she was purchased by Te Akau Racing boss, David Ellis CNZM for $290,000 from the Curraghmore draft at the 2019 National Yearling Sale.
She is the 11th individual Gr.1 winner and the 50th stakes winner for five-time Gr.1 winner Darci Brahma (Danehill), whose wins included the 2005 New Zealand 2000 Guineas. He is advertised at $15,000 at The Oaks Stud at Cambridge in 2020.
Kahma Lass is a sister to Singapore L.R. winner Distinctive Darci and a half-sister to five-time Australian L.R. sprinter Kuro (Denman), also third in the Gr.1 Coolmore Stud Stakes and to Sydney winner Southern Lad (Ocean Park), also second in the L.R. June Stakes at Randwick.
The dam Distinctive Lass (Orientate) won twice in Melbourne and L.R. placed in the Dermody Stakes at Morphettville.
The granddam Special Sweep (End Sweep) is an unraced half-sister to Australian L.R. winners Specialize (Bluebird) and Stavka (Xaar) and to Lady Special (Alzao), the dam of Gr.1 Goodwood Handicap at Morphettville winner Bomber Bill (Air de France).
The third-dam Special (Habituate) won the Gr1 Newmarket Handicap and Gr.1 Lightning Stakes at Flemington.
