A disappointing last start failure when suffering from atrial fibrillation saw Loire sent off one of the outsiders but after switching course in the home straight she stayed on strongly to score for breeders Brent and Cherry Taylor of Trelawney Stud, who share in the ownership with Kate Plaw.
Loire is the 36th Gr.1 winner for the late Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) who has champion fillies Mss Finland (Woodman), Majmu (Hussonet) as well as Gr.1 winner Gallica (Kingmambo) bred on a Mr Prospector (Raise A Native) cross.
A half-sister to Gr.1 Thorndon Mile winner A Touch Of Ruby (Pins), Loire is the fourth foal of Syrah (Traditionally), a half-sister to Gr.1 Queensland Oaks winner Vouvray (Zabeel), the granddam of L.R. Calaway Gal Stakes winner Champ Elect (Choisir), and to L.R. Victoria Cup at Caulfield winner Bolton (Zabeel).
The granddam Real Success (Success Express) won six races including the Gr.2 Dulcie Stakes at Cambridge and the Gr.3 Royal Stakes at Trentham.
Loire’s sixth dam is Schuylerville Stakes winner Pocahontas (Roman), the dam of Preakness Stakes winner and sire Tom Rolfe (Ribot) and Arlington Handicap winner and sire Chieftain (Bold Ruler).
Syrah has a 2017 filly by Ocean Park (Thorn Park) and a 2018 colt by Tivaci (High Chaparral). She was covered last season by Satono Aladdin (Deep Impact).
