Godolphin has enjoyed good success with it’s juveniles in Australia in recent seasons and looks to have another smart one in its stable following hanseatic’s dominant win in the Listed Blue Diamond Preview for males at Caulfield.
The unbeaten Hanseatic is by Street Boss out of the Exceed and Excel mare Itameri and from the immediate family of the unbeaten champion mare Black Caviar (Bel Esprit).
Unraced at two, Street Boss was at the peak of his powers as a four-year-old, winning six of his nine starts – twice at Grade 1 level in Triple Bend Invitational over seven furlongs at Hollywood Park and the Bing Crosby Handicap at Del Mar where he set a track record for six furlongs.
Street Boss has already sired Australian Group 3 winning fillies Petits Filous, Tris and Buratti out of mares by Exceed And Excel (Danehill) and has the Hong Kong Kong Group 2 winner Rapper Dragon out of a mare by Danehill Dancer (Danehill).
Street Cry himself has Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Pride Of Dubai and the Melbourne Cup winner Shocking out of a mares by Danehill and Group 1 winners Trekking and Stay With Me out of mares by Redoute’s Choice (Danehill).
Street Cry’s Kentucky Derby winning son Street Sense sired Australian Group 1 winner Hallowed Crown out of a Danehill mare and got the Group 1 winning mare Politeness out of a mare by Commands (Danehill). Arguably Street Sense’s best runner McKinzie is 4×4 Mr Prospector with his dam by Petionville (Seeking The Gold) while his Grade 1 winner Wedding Toast is also 4×4 Mr Prospector, her dam by Coronado’s Quest (Forty Niner).
Hanseatic is 3×3 to Mr Prospector with his granddam a daughter of Fusaichi Pegasus (Mr Prospector) and Street Boss has shown a decided affinity with mares that add another strain of Mr Prospector.
Kentucky Oaks winner Cathryn Sophia is out of a mare inbred to Mr Prospector while the Santa Anita Oaks winner Decked Out has Conquistador Cielo (Mr Prospector) as her maternal grandsire. The Arkansas Derby winner Danza has Tank’s Prospect (Mr Prospector) as his maternal grandsire and other Street Boss Graded or Group winners bred with a duplication of Mr Prospector include Hence, Totally Boss, Scarlet Billows and Thiamandi as well as several Listed winners including Grade 1-placed Fair Maiden.
The winner of both his starts at Listed level, Hanseatic is now one of the favourites for the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes in February, a race won last year by Godolphin and trainer Anthony Freedman with Lyre.
