Adayar’s authoritative victory in The Derby is further proof, as if any were needed, of the Classic influence of Galileo and his Champion son Frankel.
Galileo had Bolshoi Ballet as his sole representative while Frankel had three of the 11 runners and also sire of the third-placed Hurricane Lane with the runner-up Mojo Star by Galileo’s Champion half-brother Sea The Stars.
The 2000 Guineas winner Mac Swiney is by Galileo’s son New Approach and finished a creditable fourth.
Adayar is the 14th Group or Grade 1 winner from five crops of three-year-olds and Frankel’s third European Classic winner after Anapurna in the Oaks and Logician in the St Leger while in Australia his daughter Hungry Heart took the ATC Oaks in April.
Little wonder then that Frankel stood for £175,000 at Banstead Manor last season.
A fifth generation homebred for Sheikh Mohammed, Adayar is the third foal and first winner out of Anna Salai, a daughter of Dubawi who won the Group 3 Prix de la Grotte for Godolphin when trained by Andre Fabre as well as finishing runner-up in the Irish 1000 Guineas.
Anna Salai is a sister to Gr3-placed Seniority and a half-sister to Listed winners Advice (Seeking The Gold) and Iguazu falls (Pivotal).
Another half-sister Angel Falls is the dam of Gr1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere winner National Defense (Invincible Spirit) who currently shuttles between Ireland and Australia.
The granddam Anna Palariva (Caerleon) won the Group 3 Prix d’Aumale and the third-dam Anna Of Saxony (Ela-Mana-Mou) won the Gr3 Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster.
Anna Of Saxony is a sister to Gr2 Prix de Royallieu winner Annaba, the dam of German Listed winner Antonym (Bahri) and granddam of this season’s German Gr2 winner Amazing Grace (Protectionist).
Anna Of Saxony is a half-sister to Anna Of Kiev (Salse), the dam of German Champion filly Anna Monda (Montjeu) while another half-sister Accessories (Singspiel) has left her mark in Australia with Gr1 winners and stallions Helmet (Exceed And Excel) and Epaulette (Commands).
Further back and Adayar’s fifth dam is the 1981 Preis der Diana winner Anna Paola (Prince Ippi).
It is early days however, Adayar is one of six winners from 11 foals by Frankel out of Dubawi mares with three stakes winners – Adayar and the Gr1 Jebel Hatta winner Dream Castle as well as this year’s Heron Stakes at Sandown winner Mostahdaf.
Galileo’s sons Nathaniel and New Approach have also sired Group winners out of Dubawi mares.
In reverse Dubawi has enjoyed good success with mares by Galileo, notably Gr1 winners Night Of Thunder and Ghaiyyath and Gr2 winner Dartmouth.
