Sunday’s Prix de l’Opera (2000m) at ParisLongchamp winner Rougir is the first Gr1 winner for Territories.
Brought widest of all in the home straight, Rougir closed relentlessly to draw level with Grand Glory (Olympic Glory) in the final strides and score by a nose with Eudaimonia (Vision d’Etat) in third.
It is the fourth win from 13 starts for Haras de la Gousserie-owned Rougir, placed in the Gr1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches in the spring and a €55,000 Arqana Deauville August yearling.
Her dam Summer Moon (Elusive City) won three times and placed in the Listed Prix Coronation. The granddam Kalatuna (Green Tune) also won three-times and runner-up in the Gr3 Prix de Royaumont and a half-sister to Listed-placed Rocky Reef (Mtoto).
The third-dam Kalasinger (Chief Singer) a Listed winner in Belgium while Rougir’s fourth dam Kasala (Blushing Groom) is an unraced sister to Listed winner Kadissya, the dam of Derby winner Kahyasi (Ile de Bourbon).
Gr1 winner Territories shuttles between England and Australia for Darley and is the sixth son of Invincible Spirit to sire a Gr1 winner.
