Auyantepui is the 7th Gr winner and first Classic winner for Night Of Thunder after winning Sunday’s Gr2 Oaks d’Italia.
Restrained slightly worse than midfield to the home turn, Auyantepui was brought wide around the home turn and looked set for an easy victory but had to work hard to hold out the German visitor Memphis (Jukebox Jury) by a neck with Made In Italy (Mukhadram) three-quarters of a length away in third.
It is the third win from as many starts for the OTI party-owned Auyantepui, inbred 4×3 to Sadler’s Wells and a winner at Listed level last time out.
A half-sister to two winners, they are out of Sopran Enery (Montjeu), a winning three-quarter sister to Gr1 Derby Italiano winner Cima de Triomphe (Galileo), Italian Listed winner Sopran Montieri (Manduro) and Listed placed Sopran Lori (Irish River), the dam of Gr3 Premio Verziere at Milan winner Loriotania (Teofilo)
The granddam Sopran Londa (Danehill) won the Gr2 Premio regina Elena.
2000 Guineas winner Night Of Thunder) was the leading first-season sire in Europe in 2019 and currently has 15 stakes winners.
He is advertised at €25,000 at Kildangan Stud in Ireland in 2020 and will be available for southern hemisphere covers later this year.
