Bella Vella was put back into training after failing to get in foal last season and completed a Group 1 fairy tale with victory in the Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.
Bella Vella failed to get in foal to Criterion last season and was offered for sale in an Inglis online sale last April, selling for $22,500 and subsequently put into training with Will Clarken.
Since then she has won six races and is now a Group 1 winner.
Bella Vella raced near the lead throughout in the $400,000 event fending off the late charge from 2019 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Lyre to score by a head with Bam’s On Fire a further two lengths away third.
“Today she got left alone in front and she’s in super form and things went our way,” Clarken said on Channel 7.
“We’ve had a pretty average carnival with bad luck and one went our way and it was the right one.
“David Jolly actually found her (online sale) and some of my owners were looking at her as well so we put a syndicate together and bought her – it’s a fairy tale story now.”
In winning Bella Vella becomes the 13th Gr1 winner for her sire Commands (Danehill).
