Almond Eye has been crowned Japan’s Horse of the Year for the second time in three years.
The award is selected by the Horse of the Year Selection Committee made up of 283 journalists with Almond Eye receiving 236 votes.
The now retired five-year-old was also named the Best Older Filly or Mare.
This year’s Triple Crown winners Contrail (Deep Impact) and Daring Tact (Epiphaneia) were named Best Three-Year-Old Colt and Best Three-Year-Old Filly respectively, while Sodashi (Kurofune), winner of the Gr1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies, was named Best Two-Year-Old Filly and Gr1
Hopeful Stakes winner Danon The Kid (Just A Way) won the Best Two-Year-Old Colt award.
Fierement (Deep Impact), who has retired to Katsumi Yoshida’s Northern Farm, won the
Best Older Colt or Horse and Gran Alegria (Deep Impact), who won three Gr1s in 2020, was named Best Sprinter or Miler.
