Australia’s premier two-year-old race, the Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill, went the way of Farnan, the seventh win in the race for champion trainer Gai Waterhouse and her first in the partnership of Adrian Bott.
Farnan did this the hard way, crossing to share the lead early and then staying on strongly in the home straight to repel the challenge of Away Game to score convincingly.
The Aquis / Phoenix Thoroughbred-owned Farnan has won five of his six starts and has earned connections $2.5 million.
He is the 12th Gr.1 winner for Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice), who was retired from active duty at Arrowfield Stud last year due to a pulmonary disease.
Farnan is 3×4 to Danehill (Danzig) and Not A Single Doubt has Gr.2 winner Gunnison with a duplication of Danehill and now the 16th Gr.1 winner inbred to Danehill.
Farnan is a three-quarter brother to L.R. Lonhro Plate winner Sandbar (Snitzel), their dam Tallow (Street Cry) a winner of the Gr.3 Vanity Stakes at Flemington and a half-sister to the eight-time winner and Gr.3 Grand Prix Stakes at Doomben runner-up Mr Light Blue (Fantastic Light).
Further back and Farnan’s fifth dam Salire (Realgar) is a half-sister to Gr.1 AJC and Queensland Oaks winner Lowan Star (Biscay).
Farnan is the last live foal for Tallow, who sold for $250,000 at auction in 2017 when carrying Farnan. She was covered last season by The Autumn Son (Redoute’s Choice).
