Golden Sixty scored a dominant win in Sunday’s Longines Hong Kong Mile (1600m) to confirm his status as the best horse in Hong Kong.
Golden Sixty started a hot favourite to extend his winning sequence and with regular jockey Vincent Ho content to race three wide and towards the rear until the final turn, sprinted quickly early in the home straight to dash clear and win easing down by two-lengths over a gallant Southern Legend.
The Francis Lui-trained five-year-old won last season’s four-year-old Classic Series and is now the winner of 14 of his 15 starts – the last 11 in succession – after being sold first as a yearling in Australia and then as a two-year-old in training in New Zealand.
Ho was full of praise for the son of Medaglia d’Oro.
“He is amazing isn’t he? It was a good preparation for him into this race and he definitely gave his best today. I’m extremely happy what he achieved and really grateful to be on him.” Ho said.
“I’m quite far back so I just let him slide from the 600 (metre mark) and it only took him a few strides to almost become equal with them.
“I tried to save him until I let him down and when I asked for him he did really well.”
