Makaloun is SW16 for Bated Breath after making all the running to win Saturday’s Criterium du Fonds Europeen de l’Elevage (1600m) at Deauville.
Christophe Soumillon tracked wide in the early stages aboard Makaloun who was first into the home straight and despite being pressed by Euphoria (Sepoy) over the final 200m stayed on strongly to score by one length.
Raced by his breeder HH The Aga Khan, the Jean-Claude Rouget-trained Makaloun has won all three of his starts.
He is the third winner for Markana (Dalakhani), a winner up to 3000m in France and a half-sister to the Prix Omnium II at Saint-Cloud winner Markazi (Dark Angel).
Further back Makaloun traces to the Prix de Royallieu winner Riverside (Sheshoon).
Gr2 Temple Stakes winner Bated Breath (Dansili) also has French Gr3 winner Cairn Gorm out of a mare by Dalakhani.
He is advertised at £12,500 at Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket in 2020.
