Private Eye is the fifth Gr1 winner for Al Maher landing the Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Randwick.

A typically tight finish to one of Australia’s most competitive mile races with Private Eye finishing best to edge Aramayo (Poet’s Voice) and Dalasan (Dalakhani) after that pair had duelled over the final 200m.

It is the third Group win from 13 starts for Private Eye, inbred 4×4 to Nijinsky and whose earnings now exceed A$1.44m.

Gr.1 winner for Al Maher (Danehill), a Gr.1 winning three-quarter brother to champion sire Redoute’s Choice.

Private Eye is a half-brother to the Sydney and Brisbane winner Royal Witness, their dam a half-sister to Sydney winner and Gr.3 San Domenico Stakes at Randwick runner-up King’s Troop.

The granddam Royal Snippets (Royal Academy) a winner in Melbourne and a half-sis to Gr.1 winner and champion sire Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) and to Gr.3 winners Hinchinbrook (Fastnet Rock) and Viennese (Redoute’s Choice).
