20 Gr1 for Savabeel

Two-year-old Cool Aza Beel is the 20th Group 1 winner for Savabeel following his comfortable win in Saturday’s Railway Stakes over 1200m at Ellerslie.

Cool Aza Beel has now won four of his six starts and has laid a strong claim to the Champion Two-Year-Old in New Zealand title that will be decided at the conclusion of the racing season in July.

Purchased by Te Akau for $150,000 from the Fairdale Stud draft during Book 1 at the 2019 Karaka Yearling Sale, Cool Aza Beel is the 20th Gr.1 winner for Savabeel (Zabeel), advertised as ‘Private’ at Waikato Stud in 2019.

Winner of the Group 1 Cox Plate and Spring Champion Stakes at three, Savabeel has 98 stakes winners from 919 runners, operating at the accepted ratio of 10% for elite sires.

Cool Aza Beel’s dam is by Testa Rossa, a son of Perugino (Danzig) and Savabeel has Gr.1 winners Shillelagh (Flying Spur) and Pasadena Girl (Redoute’s Choice) out of mares by Danzig-line stallions.

Cool Aza Beel is the first foal of Cool ’n’ Sassy, a winner three times up to 1200m in Australia. His granddam Elle’s Decree (Red Ransom) raced once without success and is a half-sister to Gr.1 Darley Classic at Flemington and BTC Cup at Doomben winner Malaguerra (Magnus) and to Flemington L.R. winner Tennessee Midnight,  the dam of Gr.1 Coolmore Classic winner  Aloha (Encosta de Lago).

The third dam Tennessee Morn (Bletchingly) won the Gr.2 Maribyrnong Plate at Flemington at two.
