Saffron Beach is first-crop SW2 for New Bay winning Friday’s Gr3 Oh So Sharp Stakes (7f) for 2yo fillies at Newmarket.
An impressive winner on debut at Newmarket, Saffron Beach was settled second before pressing on into the lead two furlongs out then stayed on strongly to repel the persistent challenge of Thank You Next (No Nay Never) by half a length with Shine For You (Siyouni) in third.
It is the second win from as many starts for the Jane Chapple-Hyam-trained Saffron Beach, inbred 4×4 to Gone West and a 55,000gns Tattersalls foal.
She is the first winner for her dam Falling Petals (Ravens Pass), a winning three-quarter sister to Gr1 Middle Park Stakes third Huntdown (Elusive Quality) and half-sister to Continua, the dam of Gr3 Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood winner Cotai Glory (Exceed And Excel) and Jane Seymour Stakes at Newmarket winner Permission (Authorized).
The granddam Infinite Spirit (Maria’s Mon) won three races in the UK and UAE and Listed placed in the UK and USA.
The third-dam is Gr3 Matron Stakes at the Curragh winner Eternal Reve (Diesis).
Champion French 3yo in 2015, New Bay (Dubawi) is advertised at €15,000 at Ballylinch Stud in Ireland in 2020.
