Masekela is the second first-crop SW for El Kabeir winning Saturday’s Washington Singer (Denford) Stakes (7f) for 2YOs at Newbury.

Masekela and Bayside Boy (New Bay) went stride for stride over the final furlong with Masekela prevailing by a head with Robjohn (Mukhadram) a further two lengths away third.

It is the second win from four starts for Masekela, a €35,000 Goffs foal then sold for 30,000gns as a Tattersalls October yearling.

He is a half-brother to UK winner Asoof (Dubawi), also second in the Gr2 Cape Verdi Stakes at Meydan.

Their dam Lady’s Purse (Doyen) won the Gr3 Prix de Royaumont at Chantilly and a half-sister to Listed-placed Dazilyn Lady (Zilzal) and Kerry’s Dream (Tobougg), the winning dam of UK Listed winner Ventura Mist (Pastoral Pursuits).

Winner of the Gr2 Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs at two, El Kabeir (Scat Daddy) stands at Yeomanstown Stud in Ireland.
