Towards the rear close to the rail to the home turn, Saltonstall was able to find room between horses early in the home straight and he finished best to defeat Raise You (Lope de Vega) by 3-1/2 lengths with Quizical (Roderic O’Connor) third.
Bred by Cheveley Park Stud, Saltonstall sold for €120,000 as a Arqana August yearling to Godolphin, in whose colours he won a race a piece at two and three. He was then bought by Shamrock Thoroughbreds and Compas Equine for €44,000 at the Goffs Horses-In-Training Sale in 2018.
His dam Macleya (Winged Love) won seven races including the Gr2 Prix de Pomone and finished second in the Gr1 Prix Royal-Oak.
