Cherry Tortoni remained unbeaten in Saturday’s Taj Tossi Series Final (1600m) at Flemington to become SW15 for Night Of Thunder.
The Tait family homebred Cherry Tortoni came from a little worse than midfield to the home turn and then finished strongly to edge Godolphin’s Alcyone (Teofilo) with Johnny Got Angry (Tavistock) in third.
His dam Tortoni (Strategic) is a winning half-sister to 13-time Gr1 winner Tie The Knot (Nassipour) and Listed winners Hood (Shamardal) and Dream Ballad (Singspiel).
The granddam Whisked (Whiskey Road) won the Gr1 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield.
Cherry Tortoni is the 11th stakes winner in 2020 for 2000 Guineas winner Night Of Thunder (Dubawi), whose one season in Australia has yielded three stakes winners from 58 live foals conceived at a fee of $16,500.
