14 for Shamus Award

Mimi’s Award is SW14 for Shamus Award winning Saturday’s Gr3 South Australian Fillies Classic (2500m) at Morphettville.

Allowed to settle towards the rear through the early stages, Mimi’s Award  was still midfield around the home turn but finished strongly to defeat the New Zealand-visitor Llanacord (Contributer) by three-quarters of a length with Biarchi (Free Eagle) another 1-3/4 lengths off third.

It is the third win from six starts for the Tom Dabernig and Ben Hayes-trained Mimi’s Award, the first winner for her dam Aunt Mimi (More Than Ready), an unraced half-sister to Gr3 Ken Russell Memorial Classic at the Gold Coast runner-up Superare (Exceed And Excel).

The granddam Strawberry Field (Encosta de Lago) won the Listed Maybe Mahal Stakes at Flemington and a half-sister to Listed Dalrello Plate at Eagle Farm winner Pellizotti (Stratum).

The third-dam Red Labelle (Blevic) won the Listed Red Roses Stakes at Flemington.

Shamus Award (Snitzel) is showing signs of doing well with mares by More Than Ready with five winners from five runners, two of them stakes winners in Mimi’s Award and recent Gr1 Australasian Oaks winner Media Award.

Shamus Award is advertised at $33,000 at Rosemont Stud Victoria in 2021.
