13 for King Kamehameha

Sunday’s Champions Cup (1800m) at Chukyo winner Chuwa Wizard is the 13th Gr1 winner for King Kamehameha.

Racing between horses in midfield to halfway, Chuwa Wizard (pic: JRA) improved three wide around the final turn and then finished determinedly to defeat Gold Dream (Gold Allure) by 2-1/2 lengths with Inti (Came Home) close up in third.

It is the 10th win from 18 starts for the Northern Farm-bred five-year-old, winner of the Gr3 Heian Stakes last season as well as four Listed contests.

Chuwa Wizard is a brother to a winner in Japan, their dam Chuwa Blossom (Durandal) a winner four times in Japan and a half-sister to Queen Sho winner Iron Tailor (Gold Allure) as well as Maestrale (Neo Universe), the winning dam of Gr1 Champions Cup and Champion dirt horse in Japan Le Vent Se Leve (Symboli Kris S).

The third-dam September Song (Real Shadai) is a winning half-sister to two stakes winners notably Rosen Kavalier (Sunday Silence).

Chuwa Wizard’s fourth dam Dyna Fairy (Northern Taste) a stakes winner of six races including the Gr3 Epsom Cup.

Japanese Champion King Kamehameha (Kingmambo) died at Shadai Farm on August 10, 2019.

He enjoyed great success with mares by Sunday Silence, the sire of Chuwa Wizard’s broodmare sire Durandal, with Gr1 winners Duramente and Rose Kingdom. King Kamehameha’s Champion son Lord Kanaloa sired Champion Almond Eye out of a mare by Sunday Silence.

King Kamehameha’s Gr1 winning son Rulership has the 2019 Caulfield Cup winner Mer De Glace out of a Sunday Silence mare.
