Pippie was first out of the barriers in Friday night’s Gr1 Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley and that was the last her rivals saw of the flashy chestnut.
Clear around the home turn, Pippie never looked in danger of defeat and although getting tired late, went on to defeat Trekking (Street Cry) and Bella Vella (Commands). (Natasha Morello / Racing Pictures)
It is the second win at the highest level for Pippie following her win in the Oakleigh Plate in February and co-trainer Chris Meagher told Racingdotcom the Manikato Stakes (1200m) and VRC Sprint Classic (1200m) later this spring are options for the five-year-old daughter of Written Tycoon.
“Tonight she was just on point, she’d done everything right and we couldn’t have been happier,” Meagher said.
“She’s a deadset 10-year-old gelding at home but as soon as she bounces out of the machines, she’s a completely different animal.
“We came here as confident as you can be going into a Group 1 race so to pull it off is absolutely amazing.”
Jockey Damian Lane was posting his 21st win in a Group 1 race and said Pippie had more early speed than any other horse he’s ridden.
“I’ve never been on one quicker early, just how clean she is from the stalls and how easily she does it,” Lane said.
“You just give her some rein out of the barriers and then lay on her neck and she does the rest for you.
“I actually thought I was in a little bit of trouble on the corner when she came off the bridle but when I asked her for her maximum effort she really dug in again.”
