Opalescence and Boomba handed Showcasing two new stakes winners on Saturday.
Opalescence (pic: Trish Dunell) is 3×4 Green Desert & SW47 for Showcasing winning the Gr3 Bonecrusher Stakes at Ellerslie for trainer and part-owner Jenna Mahoney, who paid $1000 for Opalescence in an online sale at Gavelhouse.
Opalescence is the first Group winner in the immediate generations of her female family, her third-dam Granny Sack (Blushing Groom) a half-sister to Gr1 Irish St Leger winner Mashaalah (Nijinsky) and Gr1 Oak Leaf Stakes at Santa Anita winner Folk Art (Nijinsky).
Later in the day the New Zealand-bred Boomba won the Golden Horseshoe Stakes (1200m) for 3yos at Kranji to become SW 48.
A half-brother to Sydney winner Stardome (Savabeel), their dam Celeste (Pentire) is a half-sister to Gr2 Brisbane Cup winner Floria (Savabeel) and Gr2 Shannon Stakes at Rosehill runner-up Caped Crusader (O’Reilly).
Gimcrack Stakes winner Showcasing (Oasis Dream) shuttled to Haunui Farm in New Zealand but is now a permanent resident at Whitsbury Manor Stud in England where he is advertised at £55,000 in 2020.
